The Suwannee River Area Council has formed a 2010 National Jamboree contingent consisting of two troops. The troops are numbers 2009 and 2010. Each troop is divided into four standard patrols and one leadership patrol. The patrols from Troop 2009 are named after Spanish explorers and the 2010 patrols are named after space shuttles. These two themes, reflected in the contingents and subcamp patches, mirror themes of Florida history. Contact between Native American populations and Spanish conquistadors is the earliest historic records from Florida. The space shuttle is a prominent Florida icon which will fly its final mission in 2010 - the Centennial year for Scouting. The Contingent has completed three of the four scheduled campout/training sessions and the excitement is building. While the Contingent is at full strength, there is a short waiting list so opportunities to join the fun may exist but you have to get on the list. The designs for the Contingent patches have been completed. They are available to the general public. Don't miss you chance to own a set of these valuable patches. Click here to order.
