New Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook

Congratulations!!

Now that you have earned the rank of Life Scout, you may now plan and get approval for your Eagle Scout Project.  The Project Workbook is available online as a PDF File that you can enter in information.  Please READ and COMPLETE pages 1-18 of the Project Workbook.  This is REQUIRED by the Suwannee River Area Council, Boy Scouts of America for Project Approval.

When you have completed your Project Plan Proposal, you need to schedule an appointment with your Eagle Board of Review.  You are required to have one original and 3 copies of the workbook.  The PDL Boards are monthly, the 3rd Tuesday of each month, beginning at 7:00 pm.  They are currently being held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 4665 Thomasville Road, Tallahassee, Florida.  Please bring all workbooks to the Council Office no later than 2 weeks prior to the Board in order to secure a space.

Yours in Scouting,

Kevin Kilduff, Suwannee River Area Council Scout Executive

Additional NEW Eagle Scout Project Workbook Information:

Eagle Candidates (Life Scouts) MUST use the new format for all Eagle Scout projects approval after January 1, 2012. The Suwannee River Area Council will accept this format on projects turned in starting now. The new format calls for a Project Proposal as the first step. However, Eagle Board highly recommends that the Project Proposal be completed through page 18, which is the point when the Eagle Candidate first presents his project. Basically, the Eagle Candidate should have all the details completed, in order to be scheduled for a district “project approval”. This is what our Scouts in this council have been doing all along, so this would not be a change for us. The new guidelines do not require any details to be submitted for project approval, because the Eagle Candidate is responsible for having all details contained in his workbook for the Final Review. The intent of the Eagle Board is to prevent a Scout from having his Final Review rejected due to lack of detail in his project workbook.

The Eagle Board’s stance is that the amount of detail in the book shows the Eagle Candidates level of Preparedness and Leadership of their project. As stated in the New Advancement Guide, the Workbook is the ONLY means of evaluating the boy’s leadership of his project by the Eagle Board. The Eagle Workbook requirements are basically the same as the Council and Eagle Board, just a New Format. This format is actually very helpful with making sure the Eagle Candidate completes all that is required. Additionally, the District is now restricted from giving any additional written aids to the Scout other than providing the Workbook. The new guidelines stress that Troops provide an Eagle Mentor for this process. This process can be difficult and our hope is to not lose any Eagle Scout due to this change in format and guidelines. If we stick with the process that we have been following for many years this can be avoided.
