Awards and Recognitions

The Order of the Arrow recognizes the efforts of its members through a variety of different awards and recognitions. Please note that at least one award in this list requires application by the recipient.

OA LEADERSHIP IN SERVICE AWARD - The Leadership in Service Award is a special award program introduced at the 2004 NOAC that will be in effect until the end of 2007. It is designed to recognize Arrowmen who give service to their camp and community. A full explanation of the award can be found here. IMPORTANT NOTE: Arrowmen must apply for this award. Use this form to record service hours and then turn it in to the Council Service Center or at a lodge function to receive the award.
FOUNDER'S AWARD - The Founder's Award was created to honor and recognize those Arrowmen who have given outstanding service to the lodge. The award is reserved for an Arrowman who demonstrates to fellow Arrowmen that he or she memorializes in his or her everyday life the spirit of achievement as described by founder E. Urner Goodman. Lodges may petition the National OA Committee to present up to four awards annually, depending on lodge membership.
VIGIL HONOR - The Vigil Honor is reserved for those Arrowmen who, by reason of exceptional service, personal effort, and unselfish interest, have made distinguished contributions beyond the immediate responsibilities of their position or office to one or more of the following: their lodge, the Order of the Arrow, Scouting, or their Scout camp. Under no circumstances should tenure in Scouting or the Order of the Arrow be considered as reason enough for a Vigil Honor recommendation.  Any member of the Order of the Arrow registered in Scouting and in good standing in a regularly chartered lodge is eligible for recommendation to the National OA Committee for elevation to the Vigil Honor, provided that at the time of recommendation the individual has been a Brotherhood member for a minimum of 2 years. In Semialachee Lodge 239, a Vigil Selection committee meets annually to review and select Vigil Honor candidates. Members of the Vigil Selection committee consist of anyone who is not eligible for selection, including current Vigil Honor recipients.
